With just one round left to play in this year's OvenClean Stableford league the competition is heating up for an exciting Round 5 on 29th October. Round 4 saw Pete Taylor narrowly win after a count-back after he tied with Derek Matthews and Paul Ellwood who all scored 27 points. This sets up a close Round 5 after the lowest round for each player is subtracted with only the 4 best rounds counting towards the final score.
In the nearest the pin competition, Paul Ellwood won hole 1 while Derek Matthews was closest on hole 9.

Another closely fought round of golf..!! Some very close scoring and the deduction of points for the winners of previous rounds, saw a close finish to this round 3 of the competition. Derek Matthews narrowly beat three other players on 30 points by one point to take the top prize. However, this latest win now puts Derek under pressure since he will lose 4 points in the next two rounds. Overall leader at this point is Keith Barton on 90 points.
Paul Ellwood got nearest the pin on both holes 1 and 9 to take both prizes this time around..
The next round is being played on Sunday 1st October.

Jake Plumb is having a very successful season this year. The 12 year old, coached by golf professional John O’Leary who is based at the Whaddon Golf Centre, has won a number of key events over the last few weeks.

In May Jake took part in the series of British Junior Golf Tour events which resulted in him winning the final Order of Merit prize. The BJGT was staged over 6 rounds at a number of course including Bourn and Meridian in Cambridgeshire.

He went on to enter the Lee Westwood Golf Tour qualifier on July 2nd which was held at the Ufford Park course. With an overall net score of 68 Jake won an entry to the final which is being held at Gainsborough Golf Club in October this year.

The following day Jake entered the Cambridge Area Gold Union boys championship held at the Gog Magog Course in Cambridge and won the Under 12’s division with a gross score of 77 [ net 58].

The winning streak continued with the American Golf Junior Championship qualifier at The Shires course near London. Here, Jake was the Boys Net Winner which now qualifies him for the final at Gainsborough on 16th August.

It has been a pretty impressive Summer for Jake with his run of wins. Hopefully the haul is not finished yet and that he goes onto win the finals of the Lee Westwood Golf Tour and the American Golf Junior Championship. Jake Plumb is a name to watch for the future.

Another competitive Friday evening Texas Scramble saw the Men's Team dislodge the winning Ladies Team from the previous event  to take the honours this time. Carding a 22 the men narrowly beat the field and in doing so sets up an exciting head-to-head against the ladies for the next event in September. Nearest the Pin on the first was John while junior Toby took the prize for the 9th. In a separate putting competition, junior Will easily outplayed the field to take first prize.
